PETTIGREW - VISIT TO ASIA
Media representatives are advised that International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew will visit Tokyo, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong and
Shanghai, China from October 10 to 19.
While in Tokyo from October 10 to 12, Mr. Pettigrew will address the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan, where he will speak about the
prospects of launching a general round of negotiations at the WTO. He will also hold a bilateral meeting with Ms. Makiko Tanaka, Japanese
Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In Singapore from October 12 to 14, the Minister will attend an informal meeting of trade ministers from 22 WTO member countries to discuss
issues related to the upcoming WTO Ministerial Meeting in Doha, Qatar.
While in Hong Kong on October 15, Mr. Pettigrew will meet with local corporate leaders to promote Canada as an ideal investment destination.
In Shanghai from October 16 to 19, Minister Pettigrew will attend the 13th APEC Ministerial Meeting and will deliver a speech at the APEC CEO
Summit.
