MANLEY - MEETING IN WASHINGTON
John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee on Public Security
and Counterterrorism, will be in Washington on Wednesday, October 24, 2001, to meet with his interlocutor,
Governor Tom Ridge, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security. RCMP Commissioner Giuliano
Zaccardelli will participate in the meeting.
The Office for Homeland Security was created on October 8, 2001, by President George W. Bush. Its mission is
to develop and co-ordinate the implementation of a comprehensive national strategy to secure the United
States from terrorist threats or attacks.
Media representatives are advised that the Minister will be available for comment following the meeting.

Le ministre des Affaires étrangères et président du Comité ministériel spécial chargé de la sécurité publique et du contre-terrorisme, M. John Manley, rencontrera son interlocuteur américain, le gouverneur M. Tom Ridge, directeur du Bureau de
la sécurité intérieure (Office of Homeland Security) à Washington, le mercredi 24 octobre 2001. Le commissaire de la
GRC, M. Giuliano Zaccardelli, participera à la rencontre.
Le Bureau de la sécurité intérieure a été créé le 8 octobre 2001, par le président George W. Bush. Il a pour mission de
développer et de coordonner l'exécution d'une stratégie globale à l'échelle nationale afin d'assurer la sécurité des États-Unis face aux menaces ou aux attentats terroristes.
