MANLEY - VISIT TO EUROPE

November 30, 2001 No. 89

John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will attend the Ninth Meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council in Bucharest on December 3 and 4, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Ministerial meetings in Brussels on December 6 and 7. Minister Manley will also visit Ukraine on December 5.

In Bucharest, at the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting, the foreign ministers of the organization's 55 participating states will review and assess the activities of the OSCE. They are expected to discuss an action plan on counterterrorism measures.

On December 5, Minister Manley will visit Kyiv, Ukraine, to meet with President Leonid Kuchma, Prime Minister Anatoliy Kinakh and Foreign Minister Anatoliy Zlenko. He will deliver a keynote address at the Institute of International Relations and the Diplomatic Academy.

In Brussels, Mr. Manley will participate in meetings of the North Atlantic Council, the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, the NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council, and the NATO-Ukraine Commission. During his time in Brussels, Minister Manley will also participate in a NATO-European Union foreign ministers' meeting.
