MANLEY - SPEECH TO CDN. COUNCIL OF CHIEF EXECUTIVES, TORONTO

January 14, 2002 No. 6

John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be in Toronto on Tuesday, January 15, 2002, to accept the TIME Canada Newsmaker of the Year Award from George Russell, President and Editor of TIME Canada. Mr. Manley will also give an address at a luncheon in his honour hosted by the members of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives and TIME Canada. In his address, Minister Manley will examine the impact of September 11 on Canadian security and reflect on Canadian priorities in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks against the United States. He will also talk about opportunities for Canadian leadership in the world.

TIME Canada's Newsmaker of the Year is the person, group or place that has had the greatest impact on the news, for better or worse, in a given year. On December 24, 2001, Minister Manley was named Canadian Newsmaker of the Year for his role in the Canadian response to September 11.

The Canadian Council of Chief Executives (formerly known as the Business Council on National Issues) is the senior voice of Canadian business on issues of national and global relevance to Canadian chief executives. A non-partisan and not-for-profit organization, its member chief executive officers head companies that administer assets in excess of $2 trillion, have a yearly turnover of more than $600 billion and are responsible for a significant majority of Canada's private sector exports, investment, research and development.
