PARADIS - INTERNATIONAL FRANCOPHONIE DAY

Denis Paradis, Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa) (Francophonie), and Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian
Heritage, invite media representatives to the festivities for the Journée internationale de la Francophonie on Wednesday,
March 20, which Deputy Prime Minister John Manley will also attend.
The ceremony will include addresses by Ministers Paradis, Copps and Manley and messages from the Secretary-General of
the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, Boutros Boutros-Ghali (on video), the Chairman of the Board of
Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, Antonio Lamer (in person), and writer-composer Luc Plamondon (on video).
The program will also honour recipients of the Ordre de la Pléiade, awarded by the Assemblée parlementaire de la
Francophonie, and the Actifs et fiers trophy awarded by the Association canadienne d'éducation de langue française, and
will pay tribute to Gisèle Lalonde of S.O.S. Montfort and five-time Olympic medallist Marc Gagnon. The ceremony will
feature singers Natasha St-Pier and Luck Mervil and a group of 20 musicians from the Orchestre de la francophonie
canadienne.
