PETTIGREW - MEETING WITH EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER FOR TRADE LAMY

Media representatives are advised that International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew will meet with the European
Commissioner for Trade, Pascal Lamy, on Thursday, December 19, in Ottawa, and on Friday, December 20, in Montreal.
Mr. Lamy is visiting Canada in the context of the Canada-European Union Summit, which is held twice a year.
On December 19, Minister Pettigrew will meet with his European counterpart prior to their meeting with Prime Minister
Jean Chrétien, the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, and the Prime Minister of Denmark, Anders
Fogh Rasmussen, whose country is currently heading the European Union.
Messrs. Pettigrew and Lamy will later meet with the Canada Europe Round Table for Business (CERT), which is made up
of Canadian and European representatives of different industries, for a briefing on recommendations from CERT's last
symposium.
On December 20, Messrs. Pettigrew and Lamy will meet in Montreal to discuss multilateral trade issues. They will later
attend a luncheon organized by several Canada-Europe chambers of commerce and the Conseil des relations internationales
de Montréal, where they will deliver addresses and hold a joint press conference.
