At the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, we develop and implement strategies to promote the Government of Canada's
agenda abroad: global peace and security, prosperity and employment for Canadians. We also work to better worldwide understanding of Canada,

Canadian International Policy
We are committed to informing Canadians about Canada’s global role and offering them more opportunities to become involved in discussions of international policy. This site features information about Canada’s role in the world and other important global issues.
Global Issues, Peace and Security
Part of our mandate is to maintain international peace and prevent violent conflict. We do this through a range of initiatives, including collective security and defence arrangements, our human security program and conflict prevention, human rights promotion and peacebuilding activities.
Canada and International Organizations
Canada promotes commonly shared values such as equality and democracy through its participation in many international organizations, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth and La Francophonie.
International Development
Through agencies such as the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Canada supports development assistance programs aimed at reducing poverty in other countries and contributing to a more equitable sharing of the world's prosperity. Sustainable development is a key element in this process.
Environment
The environment is a global concern. Through its domestic and international efforts, Canada remains committed to sustaining a healthy environment that will directly benefit Canadians.
