On February 1, Justice John Gomery made public his second and final report on the results of the Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities. APEX will study the recommendations to assess the implications for executives and then advise members of its position.

- APEX stressed to Justice Gomery that the improper actions of a few people must not be allowed to taint the reputation of our Public Service's professional management team.
- Executives are conscious of the potential impact of the Inquiry's findings on the way they carry out their responsibilities. For that reason, APEX asked on their behalf that any remedies proposed not unreasonably hamper them in serving the Government and citizens in the most effective manner possible.
Financial Management in the Public Service
APEX has recently completed its own review of financial management issues, transparency and accountability.
- In the spring of 2005, the Association created a Task Force on Financial Management, undertook an extensive survey of executives and held a number of round table discussion groups.
- Various elements of financial management were reviewed such as: constraints in the current framework; and quality of financial management support to the executive function. The task force also identified concerns about current trends and various internal reform processes and recommended solutions.
The task force's full report and an executive summary will be available on this site next week.
