Rounding up of Vacation Leave Credits

DATE: April 7, 2005

SUBJECT: Rounding up of vacation leave credits

This is further to our bulletin dated March 17, 2004, whereby Treasury Board departments and organizations were advised of the application of the rounding of the balance of vacation leave credits at the end of the fiscal year.

Upon the signing of the following collective agreements, the provision for the rounding of the balance of unused vacation leave credits at the end of the fiscal year has been removed:

  • The Operational Services (SV) collective agreement
  • The Education and Library Science (EB) collective agreement.

The Technical Services (TC) collective agreement, however, still provides for the rounding up of vacation leave credits at the end of the fiscal year.

Even though the provision still exists for the TC collective agreement, it does not apply to employees on variable hours of work or to part-time employees.

Departments affected by this amendment are requested to ensure that their departmental leave system reflects the correct data for March 31, 2005.

Departmental compensation and staff relations managers should direct any questions that they may have to their appropriate corporate officials who, if need be, can contact the Collective Bargaining Section of Labour Relations.
