Canada's Defence Team
The Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Forces
are in the business of providing defence services at home and abroad
to ensure the safety, security and well-being of Canadians, continental
security, and international peace operations. Civilians of the DND
provide operational, departmental and regional support to the CF.
According to recent DND studies, we will soon need more financial management professionals.
Financial Management
The Department of National Defence manages one of the largest budgets
in the Canadian government. DND employs finance professionals to
administer the budget and track spending, as well as to implement
financial policies, procedures and systems, do business planning,
handle accounting and internal control, and provide relevant advice
to the organization

Elizabeth, Financial Officer
Elizabeth is responsible for administering DND's grants and contributions to NATO. In her
role as financial officer, she is a liaison between staff in Brussels and headquarters; she
prepares financial reports pertaining to the NATO budget, and participates in various events
along with other Canadian representatives to NATO. Elizabeth appreciates the international
element of her job and also likes the variety, "My work is never routine; there is always a new
request or turn of events that keeps my job exciting." Elizabeth joined DND as a Financial Officer
Recruitment and Development (FORD) Program candidate. This program is administered by the
Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat to recruit, train, and develop entry-level financial officers.
Elizabeth looks forward to future challenges and career development opportunities at DND.
