Chief of Classification Meeting
March 31, 2005
Classification professionals from many departments in the National Capital
Region met in Ottawa to hear all about the Classification
Modernization program planned by the Organization and Classification group
within PSHRMAC for FY2005.
The meeting, held Thursday March 31st, was organized by Mike Bazuk, A/DG Classification Program
Management and his team. It provided an opportunity for Classification professionals to learn more about
the Agency’s priorities for this year, how these priorities link to the
broader government Public Service Modernization agenda, and, perhaps most
importantly, how the Agency plans to work together with the participants to implement Classification Modernization initiatives throughout the year.
In opening remarks, Richard Burton, VP Human Resources Management Modernization,
highlighted the strategic
significance of situating the Classification program within the HRMM branch of PSHRMAC –
a branch that has the responsibility for
implementation of the Public Service Modernization Act.
The Classification
program has a unique, new, window of opportunity – an opportunity for
success:
Our efforts to modernize the Classification system are
now taking place on a much bigger stage and as part of a much bigger program
for change…
Mr. Burton stressed the value of on-going discussion and mutual sharing of
information among professionals within the Classification community. In
closing, he invited all participants to attend the third annual Classification
Symposium, scheduled to be held September 26-29th at Manoir St.
Sauveur in St. Sauveur Quebec.
