Volume 1 - Volume 2 - Volume 3 - Volume 4 - Volume 5 - Volume 6 - Volume 7 - Volume 8 - Volume 9 TALKÀ VOUSpable. BZ! Lt Jennifer Goodfellow BFC Borden Mr. Castonguay polled to come to this (absurd) conclusion. As a serving member, I think articles like this only assist in widening the already increasing gap between English- and French- speaking personnel, not to mention what the civilians reading this might have to say about it. I also believe that whoever decided to publish this piece is just as culpable for its contents as the author. I honestly think that Jacques Castonguay believes the rhetoric he is spouting, but I do not agree! Personally, I think there are just as many "considerate" francophones and anglo- phones, not to mention all the other ethnic diversities we have within the military. Cpl R. G. McKie Winnipeg l'armée; yougoslave. Maj Tony Keene Bosnie-Herzégovine; backla paroleI was pleased to read about the priority the Army will place on ISTAR and the resultant ability to "'see' and 'sense' all aspects of the battle space of tomorrow" (Vol. 3, No. 22, p. 9). However, I am often dismayed with the Army's tendency to completely overlook or fail to acknowledge the importance air defence has in this area. Generally, I think, the belief is that control of the airspace is someone else's problem and has no bearing on the ground war at all. This is not true. For example, during the Kosovo conflict, UAVs were used extensively to spy on the Yugoslav military. However, many were shot down by that country's air defenders, denying NATO valuable intelligence. You can bet that in a future conflict someone will be using UAVs to spy on our activities in order to attack us with their artillery rockets or air strikes. Will our future army still be in a position to see, sense and shoot down UAVs or anything else for that matter? Let's hope so. Otherwise, all the Global Hawks in the world will be of little use if there is no headquarters left to receive the information. LCol C. R. Kilford Commanding Officer 4th Air Defence Regiment, RCA Take 'imposed' religion off the parade squareUn article qui divise plutôt; que de rapprocherThanks a lot. Once again, amongst the myriad of professional development literature (junk mail) that appears daily in my mailbox, I find myself staring at yet another newspaper with my name somewhere on the distribution list. And although I admitted- ly try to flip quickly through The Maple Leaf, I am unable. This newspaper is continually finding something to interest the reader. I open it up and honestly hope that I'll be able to turn quickly to the next page and dispense with this reading and move on to the next piece of literature in the pile. DENIED! And quite thankfully so. I want to say thanks for making me sit down and learn about all our initiatives, current events, and stories of interest across all elements and components. This paper entices me to keep reading page after page. BZ! Lt Jennifer Goodfellow CFB Borden I read with interest the story on the stand-up of the Joint Operations Group in Kingston on June 1 ("New CFJOG 'a concept whose time has arrived'," Vol. 3, No. 22, p. 2). The photo of two CF padres and a native spiritual leader offering prayers was likewise interesting. There are some questions that need to be asked, however. Were all members on parade either adherents of the Christian faith or native traditions? Was everyone who was on parade asked beforehand if they minded having prayers and blessings offered over them? Canada does not have an established church, and the CF has no mandate to impose one. Yet, in the past three decades, I have been ordered to "Remove headdress" countless times for Christian ritual. These religious traditions are a vital part of our military heritage and I have nothing but praise for military chaplains. However, these practices are almost certainly a violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. They are also very likely violations of the Queen's Regulations and Orders. We have matured enough that we no longer need sexist cartoons in our service publications or sexist and bloodthirsty toasts at mess dinners. Surely now we can also take imposed religion off the parade square. Maj Tony Keene Bosnia-Herzegovina Major Yvan Dion's article titled "Four hours with the Unknown Soldier" (Vol. 3, No. 22, p. 16) should be required reading for all Canadians. I intend to send a copy of it to school with my children during the week of November 11. 3, no 20, p. 15). Bravo Zulu,
