The soldiers of 31 Canadian Brigade Group have a new voice in the London region. Every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., people can tune in to CJBK 1290 AM, to hear "The Canadian Soldier". This radio interview and call-in show is designed to give the public an opportunity to speak to serving soldiers and military leaders about the work done by the military locally and internationally. "The Canadian Soldier" radio show is hosted by Sarah Butler and Lieutenant Brian Telfer of 4th Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (London and Oxford Fusiliers). Each week, there are special interviews with military newsmakers and there is a special feature where listeners can speak to a peacekeeper calling directly from overseas. Weekly segments include recent promotions within the brigade, upcoming events and notes of thanks from local commanding officers to soldiers who have given special service. The talk radio broadcast area covers London, St. Thomas, Sarnia, Strathroy and Cambridge, delivering excellent access to a station that receives a significant market share in the target demographic of opinion leaders. In addition to serving peacekeepers such as Warrant Officer Sean Wilkins and Sergeant Scott Elliot, interviews have been given by Brigade Commander Colonel Gary OBrien of 31 Canadian Brigade Group, Sheridan Atkinson, veteran of the Pachino battle during the Second World War, and Private Kim Phoenix who recently returned from Normandy, where she participated in the opening of the Juno Beach Memorial. According to Col OBrien, "connecting with Canadians is our job, this show is intended to give them a way to communicate with us. But it is about the soldiers and their work, it is not about politics or policies." Capt Chafe is 31 CBG PAO. Military service a family affairBy 2Lt Martel Thompson OTTAWA "When we get dad and the three boys together on the golf course we have what we call the Lacroix Classic," says Colonel Roch Lacroix, Land Forces Atlantic Area Chief of Staff. However, that does not happen very often due to geography, as Command Chief Warrant Officer for the Army CWO Greg Lacroix, Warrant Officer Dwayne Lacroix and Col Lacroix are serving in locations across Canada. "Although we can be in different parts of the world or the country family is family and theres a bond that keeps us together no matter where we are," said CWO Lacroix. The Lacroix family is committed to life in the military and its members have excelled in each of their respective careers. Recently, CWO Lacroix had the opportunity to meet up with his brother Col Lacroix during the change of command ceremony for LFAA Commander Brigadier-General Raymond Romses. The Lacroix brothers have played and worked together for as long as they can remember and while they may have their own careers and personal goals, their loyalty to each other and their family has never wavered. When speaking of family, they readily acknowledge the influence their father (a retired Air Force corporal) had on their careers. Col Lacroix says many of the values they shared as a family such as trust and loyalty, are also prevalent in the military and no matter where he or his two brothers end up, they will always support each other and their sister Rhonda. "No matter what happens, we know the family will always be there and thats whats important," said CWO Lacroix. 2Lt Thompson is a writer with LFAA HQ.
