  • Small Departments – Monitoring Project 
  • Position Reclassification Reporting 

Monitoring of Small Department

Objective

  • To assess the health and integrity of the delivery of the classification program in small departments (SDs)

Methodology & Approach (SD)

  • Definition of small departments - under 500 occupied positions
  • Risk assessment framework – cornerstone of monitoring philosophy
  • Top down structured approach 
    • EX (Corporate Services, Programs) 
    • All other occupational groups 
  • Monitoring approach
    • Team based (TLN/HRMM)
    • Code of conduct (PS Ethics & Values) 
    • Reflects Government Management Principles (Modern Comptrollership, Results for Canadians)

Communication Strategy (SD)

PSHRMAC

  • President informed
  • Letters to deputy heads
  • OAG and PSC advised

  • Deputy Head to Human Resources 
  • Head of Human Resources to 
    • Managers
    • Employees
    • Unions

Project Status

  • PSHRMAC has monitored four departments
  • Reports underway
  • Next four departments have been selected and advised

II. Position Reclassification Reporting

  • Last quarter of this FY (Jan – March data)
    • due in April
  • Since implementation PSHRMAC has:
    • worked with departments 
    • made needed changes where feasible
    • exploring other suggested adjustments 
  • FAQs (HR and Public) – imminent
  • Supervisory Differential – PRDC site updated

Position Reclassification Reporting Tool (PRDC)

  • Provides uniformity
  • Ensures current and timely reporting
  • Facilitates data analysis 
  • Eases ad hoc statistical requirements

  • “Nil” reports must be reported
    • Go through PRDC application to own site
  • Include in your business planning calendar
