Publiservice, the Government of Canada's primary intranet site, provides a single entry point to essential resources and work tools for government employees. The site is a key component in the Government of Canada's commitment to providing integrated electronic services to all federal departments and agencies.

Overview

Publiservice has grown to become an invaluable working resource for government employees in Canada and abroad. The site is updated daily to ensure that all Government of Canada employees stay informed of the latest press releases, speeches, policies, publications and events so that they can serve the public quickly and efficiently.

Information and services on Publiservice are divided into several sections for easier navigation. These sections include Human Resources, Reference Tools, Programs and Services, Government Travel, Government Forms and Training/Education, among several others.

User feedback is frequently obtained — through periodic surveys, conferences, training sessions and e-mail messages — to ensure the site remains informative, user-friendly, and most importantly, that it reflects the needs of public service employees.

Enhanced Version
A revamped and renewed version of Publiservice was released in the fall of 2002. The new version incorporates many suggestions made by Government of Canada employees through e-mails and an on-line survey, including the following:

• A scrolling menu that facilitates easier access to commonly-accessed links
• "My Publiservice"; site customization that makes it possible for users to create a page of their favourite links
• Quicker site navigation that enables users to find what they're looking for within a maximum of two clicks

Popular Features

The Public Service Staffing Notices site, often referred to as the Jobs site, lists internal positions with the Government of Canada and allows interested candidates to apply on-line. All job applications are time- and date-stamped electronically, and confirmation is sent to both the applicant and to the appropriate human resource personnel. User identification and passwords ensure that all transactions are confidential.

The Employee Benefits Site, developed in partnership with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Treasury Board Secretariat, provides comprehensive information on policies and benefits affecting career development and retirement, and includes a number of tools to help employees calculate finances.

Virtual Pay, an extension of the Employee Benefits Site, consolidates information and tools accessed daily by employees responsible for compensation.

The media page contains numerous customized media feeds  and links to domestic and international news sources, including newspapers, magazines, and other Web sites.
