2002

Publiservice introduces a new look
Publiservice implements a new look that incorporates the draft Common Look and Feel (CLF) Standards and Guidelines for Intranets, Extranets and Other Electronic Networks and makes the site more user-friendly.

Career Watch is launched
Publiservice launches Career Watch, a new feature on the Public Service Staffing Notices site that allows Government of Canada employees to customize their job searches. Employees can select criteria for employment opportunities they would like to hear about so that they receive e-mail notices of employment postings that are relevant to them.


Interesting FactOver the 2001-2002 fiscal year, more than 23,000 federal job notices were posted on the Public Service Staffing Notices site, saving the Government of Canada millions of dollars in paper distribution costs.


2001

AchievementGovernment Technology Exhibition and Conference award
In October, Publiservice receives a Government Technology Exhibition and Conference (GTEC) award (Innovative Partnerships and Alliances for Public Service Delivery) for the creation of the Employee Benefits Site.

The Employee Benefits Site is launched
On September 26, Publiservice launches the Employee Benefits Site, which provides comprehensive information on human resource policies and benefits, and includes a number of tools to help employees calculate finances.

Publiservice moves to Communication Canada
On September 1, an amalgamation of the Communications Coordination Services Branch and the Canada Information Office results in a newly created department, Communication Canada. The new department assumes responsibility for Publiservice.

Publiservice is recognized as one of the Government of Canada's primary tools
The Public Service Commission releases a memo informing the government community that most departments are posting their job notices on Publiservice and are no longer using a paper system.

Publiservice launches pilot audio-video feature
Publiservice launches a pilot This term is in the glossary. audio-video feature that allows users to view Question Period and press conferences on-line.


2000

AchievementMichelle C. Comeau HR Leadership Award In November, the Publiservice team is awarded the Michelle C. Comeau HR Leadership Award for its work in the development of the Employee Benefits Site.

Publiservice is identified as a primary portal
Publiservice is identified as the primary portal This term is in the glossary. for Government of Canada internal communications and as a key component of the Government On-Line strategy.

AchievementDeputy Minister's Client Satisfaction Award
On February 10, the Publiservice team receives the Deputy Minister's Client Satisfaction Award for their efforts in seeking new ways to apply technology for equal access to information resources across the government, to reduce paperwork for day-to-day operations, and to increase the Government of Canada's savings and cost effectiveness.


1999

Monthly total of page requests tops 2 million
In July, the monthly total of page requests This term is in the glossary. on Publiservice and the Public Service Staffing Notices site tops the 2-million mark.

On-line job application is launched
As of January 15, with the launch of the on-line job application, Government of Canada employees can apply on-line for jobs.


Interesting FactPubliservice receives a congratulatory certificate from the minister for the team's efforts in putting together the on-line job application feature.


1998

Human resources officials post jobs electronically
In May, human resources officials begin to post staffing notices on-line directly on Publiservice instead of submitting paper notices.

Publiservice moves to the Communications Coordination Services Branch
Public Works and Government Services Canada creates the Communications Coordination Services Branch in 1997. The Branch assumes responsibility for Publiservice in April 1998.

An enhanced version of Publiservice is launched
Publiservice launches an enhanced version of the site in February. Enhancements include the capability to switch between English and French anywhere on the site, and a mouseover feature that allows users to preview the content available in each category. Publiservice is the first in government to incorporate these two features into its Web site.


1997

Public Service Staffing Notices site is launched
Publiservice launches the Public Service Staffing Notices site. At that time, all paper notices are sent to Publiservice where they are posted on-line manually by Publiservice staff. The site also includes staffing reference material, such as the Staffing Information manual.


1995

Publiservice is created
Publiservice logoWorld Wide Web technology and the availability of the Government Enterprise Network (GENet This term is in the glossary.) enable the launch, in November, of the Publiservice intranet site for all public service employees. Publiservice is part of the Government Telecommunications and Informatics Services section of Public Works and Government Services Canada.


1993

AchievementGTec LogoGold medal for Client Services
The Senior Executive Network wins the gold medal for Client Services at the Technology in Government conference.


1990

The Senior Executive Network is launched
The first electronic e-mail and information system, the Senior Executive Network, is launched for senior government officials. The service is subscription-based and delivered on monochrome black and white screens through the Government Electronic Messaging and Document Exchange Service.
