Federal SD resources
Explains the evolution of the approach taken by the Government of Canada in developing departmental/agency sustainable development strategies including key reference documents and links to the strategies. Covers the reporting done by the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development on how these strategies are being implemented. Canada's reports to the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development on a range of sectoral and cross-sectoral issues are included.
Agenda 21
Gives the background for Agenda 21 and describes the role of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development with respect to Agenda 21.
International conventions/protocols/agreements
Briefly introduces the major conventions, protocols, and agreements signed at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in 1992: Agenda 21, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the Forest Principles. The Kyoto Protocol signed later is included.
