1996 Report of Canada to the United Nations Commission on Sustainable DevelopmentCanada's third report to the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (UN CSD) describes past and current activities to implement Agenda 21, which was signed at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992. The report, which was published in 1996, contains information on activities being pursued by Canadians in all orders of government and sectors of society. In accordance with the Commission's multi-year work plan, issues covered include strengthening the role of major groups; environmentally sound technology; combating poverty; changing consumption patterns; promoting education, public awareness, and training; integrating environment and development in international legal instruments and mechanisms; protection of the atmosphere; and protection of the oceans and other seas.
