National Energy Board Strategic Plan 2005-2008

I am pleased to enclose a copy of the National Energy Board Strategic Plan 2005-2008 (Attachment 1). It was finalized with input from stakeholders who participated in a one-day regulatory improvement workshop in the fall of 2004.

At the workshop we received many important messages that influenced our objectives and the activities we plan to undertake (Attachment 2). This feedback, and our subsequent planning, has led to important learnings for us. We have incorporated those learnings into our Strategic Plan 2005-2008. The Strategic Plan encompasses our Vision, Purpose, Values, Goals, Objectives, and Measures.

The Board's vision calls on us to lead, and to execute our work in a way that looks ahead and adapts to meet changing needs. After the workshop discussions, and as we completed our strategic plan, it became clear that a new organizational structure for the NEB would help us deliver on the expectations of our stakeholders. This new structure consolidates key functions to better focus our effort on meeting our new objectives and improving clarity and accountability while also reducing overlap and simplifying our internal processes (Attachment 3).

For your information, the Strategic Plan 2005-2008 and supporting documents are available on our web site www.neb-one.gc.ca under 'What's New'. If you have any questions, please contact Brenda Kenny at (403) 299-2748 or bkenny@neb-one.gc.ca.

Yours truly

Kenneth W. Vollman
