Vision

The NEB will be a respected leader in energy regulation that protects and enables in the Canadian public interest.

Purpose

We promote Safety and Security, Environmental Protection and Economic Efficiency in the Canadian public interest within the mandate set by Parliament in the regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade.

Objectives

Goals 1 and 2

  • NEB regulations are goal-oriented
  • The NEB, as an expert safety, integrity and environmental organization, tracks and regularly reports on results and best practices
  • Integrated, risk-based compliance tools and resources are in place

Goal 3

  • Canadians are informed about the outlook for energy supplies and markets, and understand the issues associated with choices
  • Pipeline tolls and tariffs are established on a timely basis
  • Policy makers are advised of regulatory and related energy issues that need to be addressed
  • Regulatory approaches exist to deal with key infrastructure life cycle issues

  • Enhance stakeholder confidence in Board processes and outcomes by providing improved information and more flexible opportunities for engagement
  • Increase multi-stakeholder dialogue and contributions on key issues to improve outcomes
