Industry Canada has many websites for youth who are interested in finding information about programs that can help them with their schools, finding a job and learning information and communications technology (ICT) skills.



Cyberwise

Cyberwise is the National Strategy for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation on the Internet site. Whether you are a parent, child, teacher or youth worker, this site has a section specially designed for you.


Schools

Canada's Campus Connection

Canada's Campus Connection, established in collaboration with the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges, promotes on-line credit courses from over 75 institutions to learners in Canada and abroad. Visitors can explore the database of course listings and find learning opportunities that appeal to their learning goals. Users can also register to receive e-mail alerts about new courses in their field of study. Workplace learning information and a listing of participating institutions are also included.


Computers for Schools (CFS)

Computers for Schools is a national, federal government-led program that operates in cooperation with all provinces, territories, and the private and volunteer sectors, to collect, repair and refurbish donated surplus computers and distribute them free to schools and libraries throughout Canada.


EduSpecs

Industry Canada's EduSpecs Initiative is Canada's contribution to international efforts to develop common technical specifications and standards for e-learning. The underlying vision is to provide Canadians with universal access to quality on-line education and training resources to support their individual and collective learning needs and interests. Activities under EduSpecs include representing Canada on international e-learning bodies, ensuring that information on specifications and standards is available to Canada's e-learning community, conducting research in the area of e-learning standards and specifications, and encouraging application of specifications and standards within the Canadian e-learning community.


First Peoples on SchoolNet

First Peoples on SchoolNet provides links to cultural collections, learning resources, First Nations schools, kids pages, Aboriginal health resources, legal information, profiles of Aboriginal organizations and communities, information on traditional teachings, links to related sites and much more.


Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence (PMA)

The Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence recognize the efforts of outstanding teachers who have excelled in innovative teaching practices, have demonstrated commitment and leadership and have contributed to the development of student skills, participation and performance. The site provides guidelines for nominations, details of previous award recipients and information on best practices in teaching.


SchoolNet

Canada's SchoolNet mandate is to work with its partners to extend connectivity into the classrooms. The SchoolNet website contains a multitude of information for students including a Learning Resources centre that includes links to thousands of websites selected to meet the needs of teachers, students and parents alike. Finding a Job

CAP Youth Initiative (YI)

The Community Access Program (CAP) Youth Initiative (YI) is coordinated by Industry Canada's CAP and is funded through Human Resources Development Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). CAP's YI aims to provide employment opportunities across Canada for young Canadians between the ages of 15 and 30 — primarily students, recent graduates, the underemployed or unemployed. CAP YI participants work as interns at CAP centres on activities such as delivering Internet training sessions, developing websites and drafting publicity materials to improve knowledge of the Internet and related information technologies across Canada. Apply on-line to participate in the program, as an intern or as a hosting organization, and access valuable tools and resources from the site.

Strategis Employment and Learning Resources provides links to training and learning opportunities as well as resources for those seeking employment. Some resources listed include Industry Canada websites and other national job placement websites.


Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern and rural Ontario (FedNor) — Youth Internships

The Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern and rural Ontario (FedNor) invests in programs and services that bring economic benefit to communities in Northern Ontario. The Youth Internship Program provides post-secondary graduates with valuable work experience in business and economic development projects that encourage long-term employment in Northern Ontario, such as conducting research, supporting technological innovation and commercializing new technologies. Graduates must be under the age of 30 and preference is given to graduates in the fields of economic/business development, telecommunications, engineering, marketing, sciences, technology, and trade. Apply on-line to host an intern and find out more about the work of FedNor.


Industry Canada — Jobs

Whether you are a student or an experienced professional, the Jobs section of the Industry Canada departmental site contains details of various employment programs in the Public Service. Check the Student and Internship Programs section for information on such programs as the Co-op Education and Internship Program, Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP), and the HRDC Summer Student Job Action.


SkillNet.ca: The Career and Recruitment Network

SkillNet.ca offers access to various on-line career, recruitment and other services designed to encourage use of the Internet for recruitment, career, labour information and learning. Once registered, users can submit a resume, access jobs posted and review daily market information.


Strategis for Job Seekers

Strategis for Job Seekers provides a gateway to government programs, career and job-seeking advice, as well as employment resources targeted at Canadian youth and recent graduates, including:

Student Connections (SC)

Since 1996, Student Connections has hired post-secondary students to provide small and medium-sized Canadian businesses with on-site customized Internet and e-commerce training. In addition to E-Commerce First Step services and Internet training for business, this initiative also offers presentations to business groups and Internet training for seniors. Canada's Digital Collections (CDC)

Canada's Digital Collections program gives youth the opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job experience and skills producing websites about Canada for display on the Internet. The program facilitates improved access to Canadian cultural collections and promotes creative new business ventures across the country. The collection highlights Canada's history, geography, science, technology and culture, and features a growing set of on-line educational resources.
