Offshore Engineering BasinDescription: rectangular tank 75m (346 ft) in length, 32m (105 ft) in width, water depth 0.1m (.33 ft) to 3.2m (10.5 ft), models are floated, moored or self-propelled in various sea states. Moveable overhead crane (5000 kg).
Wave Generation: 168 individual wavemaker segments in an 'L' configuration, hydraulically actuated, can be adjusted vertically to accommodate water depths of 0.1m to 3.2m, three modes of articulation: flapper ± 15°, piston ± 400mm, and a combination of both, 1800kW power, also fixed and moveable passive wave absorbers. Maximum height is 0.8m for regular waves and 0.5m significant for irregular waves. Current Generation: 1000 HP recirculating water system, current speed dependent on water depth. Wind Generation: 12 fan bank with gusting capability, maximum wind speed 12 m/s @ 10m from fans. Model Size: ship models up to 4.5m in length, floating or fixed structures 0.5m to 6m diameter. Instrumentation: wave measurement using capacitance and ultrasonic probes, pressure transducers and electromagnetic and acoustic flow meters, force measurement with strain gauge load cells. Data Acquisition: A VMS and Windows NT based distributed client/server system using one or more IOtech DaqBoards, each with 256 channel capability at 100kHz aggregate.
