The Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence nomination deadline has been extended until February 10, 2006. You now have three more weeks to submit an application to honour an outstanding teacher in your community. Read the Nomination Guidelines and Form. Your nomination will give a teacher the chance to receive up to $5,000, national recognition and a certificate signed by the Prime Minister.
Program highlightsThe Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence recognize the efforts of outstanding teachers in all disciplines who instill in their students a love of learning, helping them excel and build a successful future. AwardsThe Awards, offered at the Certificate of Excellence (national) and Certificate of Achievement (regional) levels, carry cash prizes of $5000 and $1000 respectively. Financial awards are issued to the recipient's school to be spent under the recipient's direction. Certificates of Excellence are awarded to the 15 top-ranked nominees, with at least one award designated for each of the following regions: British Columbia; Prairies; Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut; Ontario; Quebec; and Atlantic Canada. The next 50 top-ranked nominees each receive a Certificate of Achievement. Recipients receive letters and certificates, signed by the Prime Minister, as well as program pins and letterhead. Certificate of Excellence recipients travel to Ottawa for best practices sessions and a ceremony with the Prime Minister at which time they receive their award certificate. Certificate of Achievement winners receive their awards at local ceremonies, organized by their school or community. Local members of Parliament and Ministers participate in many of these ceremonies. Selection CommitteeRegional and national committees of education stakeholders from across Canada select award recipients in two stages.
