Inspection ServicesAll approved measuring instruments, including scales, electricity and natural gas meters and gasoline pumps, must be inspected before use in commerce begins, and are inspected thereafter to ensure they continue to measure accurately and are not used in a fraudulent manner. Goods and services traded on the basis of measure are also inspected to ensure that they are measured and priced accurately. Samples of measuring instruments inspected under the authority of the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act include:
Gas meters (diaphram type, rotary type, turbine type and ultrasonic type)
Samples of measuring instruments inspected under the authority of the Weights and Measures Act include: Mass scales (deli and grocery store scales, hopper scales, platform scales, truck and conveyor scales) Volume measuring instruments (gasoline and propane dispensers, loading rack meters and systems for petroleum products and chemicals, mass flow meters, milk receiving meters and systems) Measurement Canada provides the inspection service to ensure that consumers and businesses alike can make measurement-based transactions with confidence.
