Please be advised that as of January 1, 2004, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office will charge CAN$15, for requesting information concerning the status of a patent application or a patent, as shown in item 27 of the amended Tariff of Fees. Administrative status information relating to the processing of patents has been available on the Canadian Patents Database on our Web site, free of charge, since August 2003. Additional information regarding the payment of maintenance fees will be available early in 2004.

All status requests must be submitted in writing and must include information regarding the method of payment (VISA, MasterCard, Amex, cheque or a CIPO account, if applicable). As of January 1, 2004, you will also have the option of ordering this information on-line via our Patent Document Order Form.

Please note that there will be no fee charged for information pertaining to the receipt of documents in respect of a patent application or a patent.

Should you have any questions related to status requests, please feel free to call the Client Service Centre, at (819) 997-1936.
