Notice Of Approval Search Help
Selection Lists (Device Types, Descriptor, Sub Descriptor, Sub-Type, Product
Group, A.L.A)
These selection lists allow you to choose one value only. They are relevant
subgroups of your previous selections thus helping to narrow your search.
The Device Type list items are based on the database area
you have selected, either Electricity, Gas, Mass or Volume.
The Descriptor list selections provide a narrowing of the choices for the Device Type.
The Sub Descriptor list displayed is dependant upon the values you have selected for the 'Database', the 'Device Type' and
the 'Descriptor'.
The Sub-Type list has three available list items: Mutual
- Canadian Testing, Mutual - U.S. Testing and Regular. 95% of all approvals
are Regular.
The Product Group list is only applicable to the 'Volume' database and will narrow your search by
defining the type of product being measured by the device you have identified
in your previous selections.
The A.L.A. (Product Approved Liquid Application) list presented
depends upon the Product Group that you selected for the volume device identified.
Fill-in Boxes (Approval #, Applicant, Manufacturer, Model)
All four of the fill-in boxes allow for Partial
Character String Searches and Standard Word Searches.
Partial Character String Search
The Partial Character String Search is the default search method and it
enables approval index retrieval based on any single portion of a character
string. With this method, no wild card characters are required. Examples:
Approval #: 011
If "011" is entered in the approval # fill-in box, every approval
with a number that contains the character string "011" will be
selected from the database. Each of the following approvals would satisfy
the partial character string search: E-0011, SD-EA-0111, SPE-1011 and T-0111.
Manufacturer: west
If "west" is entered in the manufacturer fill-in box, every
approval with a manufacturer name that contains the character string "west"
will be selected from the database. Each of the following manufacturers
would satisfy the partial character string search: Westinghouse Canada Inc.,
Sangamo Weston Inc., and Can-West Inc.
Model: 110
If "110" is entered in the model fill-in box, every approval
with a model that contains the character string "110" will be
selected from the database. Each of the following models would satisfy the
partial character string search: CTWH5-110-T200-100, PTT-110 and E1102E.
Standard Word Search
The Standard Word Search method allows searches based on whole or partial
words where the beginning of a word is known. As well it allows you to search
for multiple words within a string. The ampersand (&) represents a logical
AND; the vertical line ( | ), exclamation point, or caret ( ^ ) represent
a logical OR. With this method, wild card characters are required for partial
word searches. Examples:
Manufacturer: hydro*
If "hydro*" is entered in the manufacturer fill-in box, every
approval with a word in the manufacturer name that begins with "hydro"
will be selected from the database. Each of the following manufacturers
would satisfy the word search: British Columbia Hydro, Ontario Hydro, Hydro-Québec
and Manitoba Hydro.
Manufacturer: hydro* & (québec^ontario)
This search will find all approvals with a manufacturers name that contains
a word that begins with "hydro" AND also contains "québec"
OR "ontario". Only the following manufacturers would satisfy the
word search: Ontario Hydro and Hydro-Québec.
NOTE: In order to use the standard word search method, the check box "Use
standard word search" must be selected.
Check Boxes (Include Related Companies)
The "Include Related Companies" check boxes apply
to applicants and manufacturers and by default they are not selected. When
the check box is selected and the associated applicant or manufacturer contains
selection criteria the resulting list of approvals will contain the matching
manufacturers or applicants and all approvals of companies that are related
to the manufacturer or applicant.
"Search" Button
Click on this button to initiate your search after entering your selection
criteria. Any fields you leave blank will be ignored. The resulting list will
contain approvals which satisfy all the selection criteria entered.
"Clear" Button
Click on this button to clear all previous selection criteria.
