The Canadian Resource Guide for High Performance Manufacturing (HPM) is designed to provide a relevant and up-to-date source of information to assist Canadian manufacturers in finding the tools, people and resources they need to improve their manufacturing performance. HPM is an inclusive term incorporating many existing theories and approaches on productivity and waste reduction (e.g. Lean Manufacturing, Theory of Constraints, Total Quality Management, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen); it is also an approach based on a commitment to continuous improvement and enhanced competitiveness.
 
In the wake of the September 11 tragedy, the Trade and Investment group has identified a series of links that could be of some assistance in getting up to date information on the Canada-U.S. Border. You will also find documents addressing the border congestion issue.

Industry Canada is launching a five-year Capital Leasing Pilot Project to test the viability and impact of sharing the risks of including equipment capital leases under the Canada Small Business Financing Act (CSBFA). The CSBFA currently covers term lending and is delivered in partnership with Canada's network of lending institutions.
 
The Structured Financing Facility (SFF) is a key component of the newly announced policy framework for the Shipbuilding and Industrial Marine sector focussed on taking advantage of market opportunities, promoting investments to complement Canadian competencies in areas of market opportunity, and assisting innovation in key technologies. The objective of the SFF is to stimulate demand for new Canadian built vessels in existing Canadian shipyards, by providing financial benefits to Canadian and foreign buyers/lessees.
 
The Online Shopping Assistant is a tool designed to remain on your computer screen while you review a merchant's web site, and to quickly assess whether you are getting the information you need before making a purchase. Reputable merchants will provide you with all the information you need to make informed on-line buying decisions.
 
The Canadian Importers Database is now updated to the year 2000. This database of company names and geographic location of major Canadian importers can be searched by city name, product name, or Harmonized System (HS) code. Company-based reports can be generated. These are alphabetical listings of the top 80% importers for a given year. Product-based reports contain statistics outlining the degree of concentration of the import market for that particular product.

Eco-efficiency advocates the creation of goods and services while reducing resource consumption, waste and pollution that are associated with those goods and services. The site discusses Industry Practices, Tools for Business and Industry Canada's Role in Eco-efficiency.

The Contributions Program 2002-2003 provides consumer and voluntary organizations with the means to produce high quality and timely research on consumer issues affecting the marketplace, and to develop policy advice on these issues that are both credible and useful to decision-makers.

The 
Business Start-up Assistant (BSA) is a Web site that consolidates essential information required by anyone wishing to launch a successful business. It combines start-up information from the Canada Business Service Centres (CBSCs), the federal and provincial governments, the community and many other sources. Information is organized by topics such as market assessment, financing, taxation, writing a business plan, and many others - all critical to starting a new business. This easy to navigate site also provides links to federal and provincial forms required for launching your business.

Steps to Growth Capital, the Canadian entrepreneurs' guide to securing risk capital, has been thoroughly updated to make it more user-friendly. This online guide leads entrepreneurs through nine steps on how to secure equity financing. There is an Investor-Readiness Self-Assessment Test which allows clients to identify what they need to know about meeting investors, writing a winning proposal and negotiating a deal. There is also a Fast Track for those who just need to brush up their knowledge and skills.

The Public-Private Partnership (P3) Office is a website providing stakeholders interested in exploring public-private partnerships with quick and easy access to the mass of P3 information available on the web. It is a unique site designed to provide complete access to a wide variety of essential information and services on public-private partnerships under one roof.

retailinteractive.ca is a partnership between Retail Council of Canada and Industry Canada, designed to provide Canada's independent and small chain retailers with the information needed to make the best retail business decisions in the new economy.

The Student Connection Program (SCP) provides Canadian business with Internet training and E-Commerce solutions. The SCP now offers E-Commerce First Step, a suite of new E-Commerce services aimed at providing small and medium-sized businesses with valuable e-commerce information and assistance.

The Shipbuilding and Industrial Marine site consists of a Partnership report and a statement from the minister, as well as links to various associations in the industry and to Ocean Technology and Shipbuilding and Repair sites.

The Competition Bureau has launched a newly re-designed Bureau Website. The information has been structured in logical sections for easier navigation, and new features have been added.

New negotiations on trade in services (GATS 2000) began in January 2000. These negotiations take as their starting point the commitments made pursuant to the 1995 General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS).

The new Telehealth / E-Health Pathfinder website will provide you with a list of Canadian organizations currently investing in this emerging field. Pathfinder is a tool to promote Canadian capabilities and develop partnering opportunities between suppliers and users/practitioners in the area of Telehealth / E-Health.

Industry Canada's Sustainable Development Strategy for 2000-2003 is guided by a commitment to promote sustainable development as part of its mandate to create the foundation for a more productive, competitive, knowledge-based economy. This vision calls for the Department to play a leadership role and form partnerships to promote sustainable development by promoting eco-efficiency, environmental technologies and decision-making.

Spectrum Direct is an on-line services web site that provides clients with an unrestricted access to Industry Canada's radiocommunication licences database.
