2004-12-14 New sectors added to Measurement Canada Registration Program

Further to decisions made by Measurement Canada’s Senior Management Committee, the dairy, retail food and retail petroleum sectors will be added to the Measurement Canada Registration Program as of April 1, 2005. These additions are a result of recommendations from stakeholders in the sectors concerned.

Currently, the program is open only to the downstream petroleum sector and, since October 1, 2004, the truck-mounted meters used in the retail petroleum sector.

As of April 1, 2005, the program scope will therefore include:

Downstream petroleum sector

  • all inspection types
  • all device types

Retail petroleum sector
  • all inspection types
  • all device types

Dairy sector
  • all inspection types
  • all device types

Retail food sector
  • only subsequent inspections
  • all device types

* As a result of the stakeholders' decision, the initial inspections in the retail food sector cannot be carried out by a registered organization.

Measurement Canada is now accepting registration applications for all the above-mentioned sectors. This will enable us to organize the training required. Please note, however, that no organization will be registered before April 1, 2005, to conduct inspections in sectors that are not currently eligible for the program.

For further information on the current scope of the program, see section 1.3 of the terms and conditions of the program.

For the results and decisions of sector reviews, please see the Sector Review page.
