Footnotes

1. This reference tool uses available data on the communications service industries based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), which includes telecommunications services and broadcast distribution. See Appendix A for a detailed breakdown of each industry segment. NAICS is the most up-to-date industry classification in use and is jointly developed by Canada, the United States and Mexico. It reflects the industrial structure of the North American economy using reference years 1997 and 2002. The system allows for a more comprehensive coverage of the industry than the previous 1980 Canadian Standard Industrial Classification (SIC).
