Ports contend for shared resources : The Omicron MSD (Modem
Sharing Device) Series provides a cost effective solution to
optimize leased line, modem or computer port facilities.
Available in cost reduction 2,4 or 8 port configurations, the MSD
series lets any combination of modems and/or terminals share a
modem, multiplexer or computer port in a polled, multidrop
environment.

Synchronous or asynchronous data support : Devices connected to
Omicron's MSD series can transmit and receive using synchronous
or asynchronous datastreams. In synchronous mode, the main
channel device clock, or any subchannel device clock, enables
operation up to 64 Kbps.

Manual or automatic antistreaming : The main channel broadcasts
data and control signals to all subchannels. The subchannel
devices contend for transmission to the main channel device,
based on RTS/CTS handshaking. Occasionally, a port may stay
active longer than a preset time and inhibit other subchannel
communication. The MSD Series automatically or manually disables
the offending subchannel.

Front panel controls : Front panel LEDs and operating controls
provide convenient access to port & clock selection/deselection
facilities and signal status information.

Stand alone or Rackmount : The MSD Series is available in a stand
alone enclosures for branch locations or 19" racks for hub
locations. Omicron's 19" rack is based on an innovative modular
design that is compatible with SureNeT (see SureNet brochure for
more information). The Omicron modular concept provides a
cost-effective migration
path for network growth by building on investments already in
place..

Nom du produit : Integrated Port and Line Sharing Unit (IPLS)
(Exportation)

Integrates modem sharing and dial backup : The IPLS (Integrated
Port & Line Sharing Device) ensures branch communications by
protecting against leased line or equipment failure. By
integrating traditional Modem Sharing facilities with dial backup
facilities, the IPLS is the perfect solution for branch
connectivity in any high availability network. Most modem sharing
devices are useless when dedicated services have failed. The
support IPLS, however, automatically reestablishes service often
without user knowledge of failure conditions.

Automatic Dial Backup : Leased line failures trigger a switch
over procedure. Typically the host will dial up the backup port
of the IPLS. Once Ring Indicator (RI) and Data Carrier Detect
(DCD) signals are present, the IPLS will switch from the leased
line to the dial up line. If the host detects that the leased
line is back in operation, the transmission on the dial up line
is stopped. The IPLS then switches back to the leased line.

DBC initiates auto dial condition : Certain network
configurations do not support auto dial from the host.
Consequently Omicron's DBC (Dial Backup Controller) can be used
in combination with the IPLS as a cost effective, stand-alone
solution. The DBC detects leased line outages and initiates the
auto dial sequence. DBC also detects service restoral on the
leased line and initiates the switchover from the dial line (see
the DCB brochure for more information).

Synchronous or Asynchronous support : The IPLS modemsharing
function lets any modem and/or terminal share a modem,
multiplexer or computer port in a polled, multidrop environment.
Devices connected to the IPLS can transmit and receive using
synchronous or asynchronous datastreams. In synchronous mode, the
main channel device clock, or any subchannel device clock enables
operation up to 64 Kbps.

The IPLS automatically or manually disables the
offending subchannel.

Omicron's innovative combination of modem sharing and dial
backup support minimizes branch downtime and maximizes cost
savings..

Nom du produit : Dial Backup Controller (DBC)
(Exportation)

. Do leased line failures disrupt your operations?
. Is your Backup procedure disruptive to user sessions?
. Are your long distance charges for backup support outrageous?

. Are you searching for a system that can manage your line
failures without expensive management software?
. Have your inquiries into an integrated, cost-effective,
nondisruptive backup system gone unanswered?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, You need
Omicron's Dial Backup Controller (DBC).

Non-Disruptive Backup : The Dial Backup Controller (DBC) operates
in conjunction with Omicron's customer premises equipment to
provide a Non-Disruptive Solution For backup support of
point-to-point leased lines working in a polled SNA/SDLC
environment. Typically attached to a FEP or Router port, the DBC
maintains user sessions when dedicated lines fail. This means
that network providers can finally ensure services despite leased
line, modem or DSU failures.

Seamless Switchover & Switchback : The DBC uses advanced
monitoring techniques to detect communication outages that
trigger a Seamless Switchover Procedure to an alternate path
established via a dial line. Complete transparency is maintained
since the DBC automatically adjusts for the speed difference of
the dialed path. Long distance dial line charges, if applicable,
are minimized since the DBC continuously monitors the leased
line. Once service is restored a Seamless Switchback Procedure is
enabled, providing non-disruptive return to normal operations.
The combination of transparent and
non-disruptive features provides a unique dial backup solution
that increases user satisfaction and service quality.

Outages are a thing of the past : In addition to protecting
against line failures, the DBC can be used to establish an
alternate path during scheduled outages or new installations. Now
services can continue, eliminating the need to schedule outages
during off hours. New installations can be operational
immediately by using the alternate path until the leased line is
installed.

Advanced Network Management & Control : The DBC offers extensive
network management capabilities. Depending on your specific
requirements, the DBC can be configured for InStream or
Side-Stream network management. InStream network management
provides integrated control of the DBC from Netview using either
the LPDA-2 protocol or LL-2 command structure. SideStream network
management enables single point control over multiple DBC units
from any PC or terminal without specifying any VTAM or NCP
definitions. Either way, the Network or Help Desk manager is
notified of every DBC event and is empowered with a wide array of
support tools for control over any installation.

Easy to Install, Standalone solution : The DBC is used in
conjunction with Omicron's customer premises equipment.
Selection of Omicron's customer premises equipment depends on
your specific requirements. Options range from simply interfacing
with the DBC to providing support for port/line sharing, dynamic
bandwidth and remote network
management. Together the DBC and Omicron's customer premises
equipment provide a standalone solution that is easy to install.
In fact, no special skills or changes to your existing set up are
required. Simply Plug 'n Play.Play.

Nom du produit : Intelligent Sharing Device (ISD)
(Exportation)

- Are your line costs skyrocketing?
. Are users irate due to service outages?
. Is bandwidth to branch offices limited by costs?
. Do large data transfers require off-hour scheduling?
. Is network management compatibility an issue?

If you have answered yes to any or all of these questions,
Omicron's Intelligent Sharing Device (ISD) is for you.

The ISD was designed to provide a comprehensive, cost effective
solution for branch connectivity. Operating in an SNA
environment, the ISD combines the unique integration of modem
sharing, dial backup, dynamic bandwidth and network management
functions. Consequently, the ISD effectively reduces costs,
ensures communications and enhances operational efficiency.

Modem Sharing reduces communication costs : The ISD reduces
communication costs in a polled multi-drop environment by sharing
leased line modem or computer port facilities with 4 devices.
Flexible configuration allows any combination of modems and/or
terminals to share the common channel. Contention is typically
based on RTS/CTS handshaking, however non-standard applications
are easily adapted. Occasionally, device malfunctions will lock
out other functioning devices. The ISD automatically disables
defective devices after a user defined time out period to
maintain communications for the rest of the branch.

Dial backup ensures branch communications : Unlike most sharing
devices the ISD protects against dedicated service failures. The
integrated dial backup support feature swiftly establishes an
alternate route for branch communication
upon leased line failures. This invaluable feature ensures that
branch transactions can continue usually without user knowledge
of failure conditions.

Automatic Speed matching : Typically dial back up lines operate
at different speeds than the dedicated services they support. The
ISD automatically provides the speed conversion such that back up
communications are transparent to all connected devices.

Dynamic bandwidth enhances operational efficiency : Backup lines
are normally idle, representing an under utilization of network
resources. The ISD enables the branch to use the backup line in
parallel with normal branch operations. By allowing a dedicated
auxiliary DTE port access to the backup line, the ISD extends
usual bandwidth capabilities of the branch. As a result file
transfers software updates, etc. can occur in parallel with high
priority transactions. Operational efficiency is enhanced since
off hour network time is no longer needed for specialized data
transfers.

Netview compatibility : The ISD supports LL2 commands to enable
network management using existing Netview facilities.
Consequently the ISD is managed as an integrated part of your SNA
network. If Netview is not used, the ISD can be used in
combination with Omicron's Dial Backup Controller (DBC) as a
stand alone solution. Both products are also compatible with
Omicron's SureNet network management software.

Upgradeability : The ISD supports remote pro-tram load. This
feature enables all ISD's,
installed at customer locations, to be upgraded with out
disrupting the installation! New or custom functions can be down
loaded to accommodate evolving network requirements. Not only
does ISD reduce costs today, it also provides an intelligent
migration path for network growth.th.

Nom du produit : Intelligent Network Restoral System (INRS)
(Exportation)

Intelligent INRS combines monitoring, datascoping and switching
functions to ensure that data moves continuously to its indented
destination.

Backup for critical equipment and circuits : The INRS
(Intelligent Network Restoral System) is an integrated network
management tool for centralised realtime alarm reporting,
diagnostic support and intelligent network restoral.

Most networks, particularly those that are transaction oriented,
cannot afford service interruptions. With this in mind, INRS was
designed to monitor, control and provide critical backup for
network links or equipment. Typically attached to communication
equipment at hub locations the INRS enables the network manager
to remotely detect problems and instantly restore service from
his P.C. Open, this occurs without end-user knowledge of failure
conditions!

Configurable Switching : INRS link and equipment restoral can be
set for automatic, controlled or manual switching. Typically,
concentration points use INRS automatic switching to minimize
downtime. However, network managers occasionally require
controlled switching for less critical links or manual switching
to dedicate links to their primary or secondary ports.

Automatic switching triggered by user-defined conditions : INRS
continuously monitors remote links for user-defined alarm
conditions. Audible alarms and link identification error messages
alert the network manager of problem areas. With automatic
switching enabled, INRS instantly restores the failed link or
equipment to reestablish service. Automatic switching
can also be scheduled far weekends or off-hours to satisfy
routine outage period requirements.

Controlled switching regulated by the network manager : With INRS
controlled switching, the network manager can supervise the
switch over of failed links or equipment. Group or Supergroup
definitions enable single command control over individual or
multiple link switching.

Manual switching provides override : With INRS manual switching
the network manager can override automatic and controlled
switching. By simply setting the appropriate front panel toggle
switch, a common port can be dedicated to either the primary or
secondary port.

Safety from unintended switching : INRS protects communications
against accidental switching with two safety features. INRS
Anti-Glitch Control Feature filters out electrical line noise
which might trigger inadvertent switchover. INRS Delay Feature
prevents switchover due to transient changes by requiring the new
signal state to be stable for 1 to 64 seconds. In addition INRS
protects against power outages by maintaining all switch
positions with latching relays.

Datascoping of remote links : Datascoping facilities at the
control centre is a feature unique to Omicron's product series.
Without additional circuits or equipment, the network manager can
view and analyze Rx and Tx data of remote links to determine
protocol related faults.

on investments already in place.

Easy to use operator interface : A menu driven interface
supported by on-line help provides access to alarms, trends,
utilisation, link status, etc.

Omicron combines monitoring, datascoping and switching functions,
that provide the network manager with a powerful fault isolation
tool to minimize cost and maximize uptime.e.
