Ontario packer fined for violation of the Canada Agricultural Products ActA conviction was registered against Knights Appleden Fruit Limited in Cobourg Provincial Court on January 31, 2006. The conviction was the result of a guilty plea to one charge pursuant to subsection 19.(5) of the Canada Agricultural Products Act, and resulted in a total fine of $3,500. Subsection 19.(5) of the Canada Agricultural Products Act states: "Except as authorized by an inspector, no person shall remove, alter or interfere in any way with a thing seized or detained under this Act or the regulations."
