The CFIA sets standards for Canadian food labels so that they will be truthful and not
misleading. These standards help consumers to make informed choices about the foods they
eat. The following pages provide an introduction to Canadas position on the
labelling of biotechnology-derived foods. They also describe Canadas efforts to
develop a domestic labelling standard for biotechnology-derived foods and our involvement
in the development of international food standards.
