Intercepted Plant Pests
1997-2000
Introduction
This report summarizes the results of the plant pest identifications made by
the Centre for Plant Quarantine Pests (CPQP), Nepean, Ontario from samples
submitted to CPQP from April 1, 1997 to March 31, 2000. The report includes
pests found to be associated with plants, plant products, baggage, cargo, mail,
or other carriers entering Canada. Most of the identifications were done by the
staff of CPQP with support from the Research Branch of Agriculture and
Agri-Food Canada and the Canadian Museum of Nature
The information is sorted in three ways: by PEST, by HOST and by ORIGIN and
presented in three corresponding tables for each fiscal year. The tables that
are sorted by PEST are divided into 3 sections: Entomology (includes arthropods
and molluscs), Nematology, and Pathology (includes fungi and bacteria). The
entries in ORIGIN of SHIPMENT tables have been sorted alphabetically by
country. The entries for the United States are also sorted by state. Please
note that due to trans-shipments and re-exportation of commodities the origin
of the shipment may not always be the origin of the commodity or pest.
This report includes pests identified from imported material that was
submitted to CPQP during the fiscal years 1997-98, 1998-99 and 1999-2001. The
numbers of intercepted pests are listed in the table below.
