Plant Protection and Seed Potato Certification
The CFIAs Plant Health laboratory services are delivered
by three Centres of Expertise and the CFIA Laboratory in St. Johns, NF.
Each laboratory serves as the national centre for its area of specialization,
providing testing, technology development, scientific advice, and consulting
support to CFIAs Program and Policy officers, and to international
organizations.

CFIA Laboratory - Sidney, British Columbia
(Centre for Plant Health)
Provides testing, virus indexing, therapy, and technology development for
viruses and pests of grapevines, treefruits and other crops.

CFIA Laboratory -
Nepean, Ontario
(Centre for Plant Quarantine Pests)
Reports: PEST INTERCEPTIONS 1997 - 2000
Provides bacteriology, entomology, mycology and nematology tests to certify
plants, plant products and plant growing media for import and export, and for
surveillance and control of plant pests of regulatory importance. Carries out
research and technology development of rapid tests.

Provides testing, and reference services for
CFIAs Seed Potato Certification program. Activities include research to
improve tests for potato diseases of quarantine and trade significance. Also
provides audit and technical support for the accreditation of non-federal labs
to test seed potatoes for import, export and disease control programs.

CFIA Laboratory - St. John's, Newfoundland
(Plant Health Laboratory)
Provides testing for potato wart disease and cyst nematodes; collaborates
with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Newfoundland government in the
development of potato cultivars resistant to potato wart and potato cyst
nematodes.
