Painted Apple Moth - Orgyia anartoides


 

The male of this Lymantriid moth has a 2.5 cm wingspan. Its dark brown forewing is marked with a black band, and the orange hindwing with a broad black outer band. The female moth is wingless, 6 mm long, and is covered with thick short brown hairs.

Distribution: Australia (Southeastern mainland and Tasmania) and New Zealand (North Island - Auckland City and Waitakere City)
