In its native range of Europe and Asia, the brown spruce
longhorn beetle (Tetropium fuscum) is known to
attack weakened, stressed, and dead or felled spruce and also attacks pines,
fir, and larch.
The Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle (BSLB) has been identified by scientists
with the Canadian Forest Service (CFS) to be the causal agent of spruce tree
mortality in Point Pleasant Park in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
