Bacterial Canker of Poplar - Xanthomonas populi

Infected trees in Nothern France - Michel M‚nard, UMR de PaV‚ 077, INRA - INH - Universit‚ d'Angers Bacterial Canker of Poplar is not found in Canada. Only poplar (Populus) species are affected.

Symptoms of the disease vary with the affected clone, ecological conditions and the physiological state of the diseased tree. Typically, many buds will fail to open on young branches in the spring, and symptoms become visible at the bud bases as slightly swollen areas with superficial cracks that exude a dense, greyish mucoid ooze.
