Maps and Reports > Satellite Images Maps and ReportsRegional ImagesMap does not existRegional satellite images are close-up views of major wildfire and smoke events in Canada. They are obtained from various sources. These images are updated when new data are available. Images labelled "NOAA" are acquired by the AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) sensor on board the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellite (POES) series. They are presented here courtesy of NOAA's Operational Significant Event Imagery (OSEI) group. Images labelled "MODIS" are acquired by the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) sensor on board the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) Terra and Aqua satellites. They are presented here courtesy of the Land Rapid Response System, a joint initiative of NASA, the University of Maryland, and the USDA Forest Service. Images labelled "GOES" are acquired by NOAA's GOES (Geosynchronous Operational Environmental Satellite) weather satellite series, and are presented courtesy of NOAA's OSEI group. All other images are acquired from the NOAA's AVHRR and processed by the Canadian Forest Service (CFS) as part of the Fire M3 project, a joint initiative of CFS and the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing.
