RESTORATIONS TO NATASHQUAN
AIRPORT’S MOVEMENT AREA COMPLETED
NATASHQUAN, QUEBEC — Transport Minister Jean-C. Lapierre today announced that restorations to Natashquan Airport’s movement area, carried out by Pavex Ltée., have been completed.
The work of nearly $ 3 400 000 involved pavement restoration of the runway, the taxiway and the apron along with the public parking lot. The rehabilitation of the airport’s pavements was carried out in part using a recycling technique of original material, allowing salvage of existing pavements while considerably reducing new material inputs.
“The choice of an environmentally-friendly intervention method that contributes to material recycling allowed to significantly reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission while the work was being carried out, in accordance with sustainable development principles”, said Mr. Lapierre.
Natashquan Airport is considered a local/regional airport under the National Airport Policy. It is an important stopover for the transportation of passengers and freight on the North Shore.
“This project will help Natashquan Airport maintain a safe movement area for many years to come and thus promote the community’s economic, recreational and tourism potentials,” Mr. Lapierre noted.
Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing financial framework.
