Related Incentives for Existing Buildings

If you are applying for Energy Retrofit Assistance (ERA) funding from the Energy Innovators Initiative (EII) for your existing buildings, your commercial or institutional organization may also be eligible for additional or “top-up” funding from other sources.

National Incentives

Natural Resources Canada's Renewable Energy Deployment Initiative ( REDI) offers funding for solar air and water heating systems, as well as for biomass systems.

EnerGuide for Low-Income Households helps reduce energy costs for selected multi-unit residential buildings.

The Green Municipal Fund (GMF) was established by the Government of Canada to stimulate investment in sustainable community planning and infrastructure projects. Municipal governments and their partners can apply for funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) offers reductions on mortgage loan insurance premiums for qualified rental housing, retirement and nursing homes.

Regional Incentives

If your building is serviced by one of the following utilities or governments, you may be able to apply for additional funds.

• British Columbia: BC Hydro FortisBC Terasen Gas
• Manitoba: Manitoba Hydro
• Nova Scotia: Heritage Gas
• Ontario: Enbridge Gas Northern Ontario Heritage Fund
• Quebec: Energy Efficiency Fund  Gazifère  Gaz Métro  Hydro-Québec

Other Incentives from the Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE)

Although the following incentives offered by Natural Resources Canada's OEE cannot be combined with ERA, they may be of interest to organizations with buildings.

• If you plan to build a new a commercial or institutional building, you may qualify for financial assistance through the Commercial Building Incentive Program. New industrial facilities can apply to the Industrial Building Incentive Program (IBIP).
• The Industrial Energy Audit Incentive covers up to 50 percent of the cost of an energy audit in industrial facilities, to a maximum of $5,000.
