Groundbreaking Kyoto Protocol Compliance system launched

3 March 2006--The Kyoto Protocol’s Compliance Committee has taken up its operations as the last of the bodies established under the 1997 landmark environmental treaty to do so, and elected the Chairs of its Enforcement and Facilitative Branches at a meeting in Bonn, Germany.

COP 12 and COP/MOP 2 to be held in Nairobi

27 Feb 2006--The Bureau of the Conference of the Parties has accepted the offer of the Government of Kenya to host COP 12 and COP/MOP 2 in Nairobi at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, from 6 - 17 November 2006. The Bureau also noted that additional investments in infrastructure will be required to hold the conference and invited Parties in a position to do so to support the Government of Kenya in this important undertaking.


Canadian Environment Minister Rona Ambrose assumes Presidency of UN Climate Change Conference

21 Feb 2006--Ms. Rona Ambrose, Canada's new Minister of the Environment, has replaced Mr. Stéphane Dion as the President of the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

Sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies

The twenty-fourth sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held from 18-26 May 2006 in Bonn, Germany.
