Energy Efficiency Ratings

Ground Source Heat Pumps

ENERGY STAR/Energuide Logo

These heat pumps take heat from the ground or from surface or ground water. Since the temperature of these sources is relatively warm, the efficiency of ground source heat pumps is high. Heating efficiency is normally stated as the Coefficient of Performance (heating) - COPh. Ground source heat pumps also provide air conditioning in summer, with the cooling efficiency stated as Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER).

Many factors affect your home heating and cooling needs, so a heat load calculation is required to properly size the heating system.

Many GSHPs also provide domestic hot water.
