OECD's Indicators of Education Systems (INES)
CMEC coordinates Canada's participation in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) education indicators projects. Every year OECD publishes Education at a Glance, which is a compilation of indicators that provides a comparative quantitative description of the functioning of education systems in OECD member countries, and Education Policy Analysis, which addresses education issues of particular interest in greater depth than is possible in Education at a Glance.
The Research and Statistics Unit creates a supplementary document [PDF] annually, for the ministries and departments of education in Canada, which highlights the Canadian content in Education at a Glance.
International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA)
The Canadian membership in the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) is currently held by CMEC. IEA is an international cooperative of national research institutions and research agencies whose primary purpose is to conduct large-scale comparative studies of educational achievement. Canada participated in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study Repeat (TIMSS-R), which was administered to grade 4 students in 1999. Canada also participated in the Second Information Technology in Education Study (SITES), Module 1, which surveyed school principals and administrators about the use of computers and other information technology in schools, and Module 2, which consists of case studies documenting innovative uses of information technology in education.
