New ENERGY STAR Criteria for Dishwashers and Clothes Washers in 2007

Dishwashers and clothes washers have to meet more stringent criteria to qualify for the ENERGY STAR symbol effective January 1, 2007. The ENERGY STAR criteria for dishwashers is several years old and needed to be updated to ensure that only the best energy performers are eligible to use the ENERGY STAR symbol. Criteria changes for clothes washers are the result of a new minimum energy efficiency standard that is being regulated in both Canada and the U.S. As a result of these criteria changes, many dishwashers and clothes washers that meet the current requirements will no longer qualify for ENERGY STAR.
