Now... just a little "food for thought" before we begin! These are
some considerations prior to guiding people through these next eight
weeks:
You are all peers.... always be learning from one another.
Discovering the senior participants' real interests is key. It is helpful to ask before each session, "What are 3 things you really want to learn?" This helps you guide the sessions better and maintain a valuable connection throughout with participants.
Invite people's experiences... adults learn best when they can relate life experience to new learning. For example, just imagine how much more effective learning about the Internet would be if a veteran was invited to tell a story about one of his medals, as the group looked at the medal's page within the overall Veterans' Affairs Canada Site. Many topics within this series will naturally invoke personal stories...invite this. This may be sensitive but it is important! A gentle guiding through will help a great deal.
Finally, when we consider this overall series, just remember four words...facts, fun, fellowship, and food. This is a good formula to go by for success. On the last day, you get to add a fifth... the fiddle. Use these as a guide and you'll never go wrong!
Moving on....
