Assemble Materials

Your lists of things to do must include the materials you will need for the workshops. Initially, you will need markers, name tags, place cards, Kleenex tissue, tape and string, posters, brochures, Community Resource Literature, refreshments, cups, napkins, flip chart, and overhead projector (if not supplied by facility).

The arrangements for refreshments, such as coffee maker, kettle, dishes, juice, tea/coffee, milk, and sugar, should be discussed with your contact person at the facility. Check for convenience of electrical outlets in the room you plan to use.

It is a good idea to prepare place cards which can sit on the table in front of each person. Their first name can be written in large letters on the card. The facilitator should also have a typed list of the group participants for quick reference.

Your next task will be to assemble the participants' folders. You can put a name label (self-adhesive label) on each folder to personalize them. Be sure to have a few extra folders and blank self-adhesive labels just to be safe. For the first week, each folder will contain:

  • Agenda for the first session
  • Outline of the themes (Appendix 1)
  • Evaluation form for Workshop I (perhaps presented on colored paper so it will stand out)
  • Selected References
  • Resource Guide (Appendix 7)
  • pen, writing pad / paper
  • blank name tag
  • brochure (if you have produced one)
  • the name(s) and phone number(s) of the facilitator(s)
  • How Do I Find My Way? (Appendix 8)

The agenda for each subsequent session can be handed out at the end of the preceding session (beginning with Module 1).

The evaluation forms can be distributed for each workshop during the time for evaluation identified in the module.

Caution: Leave yourself lots of time to plan for all these details and supplies; everything seems to take longer than you
