We all know that home is where the heart is. But the place you call home also should be safe, affordable and meet your needs. That's why Veterans Affairs Canada is working with the Dominion Command of the Royal Canadian Legion to offer guidance and advice to Provincial Commands and Legion Branches on various property- related issues. This may include help in identifying, planning, developing or financing housing options for veterans and other seniors.

In addition to dispensing valuable advice, the Legion Seniors' Housing Program has helped to establish a preferred lending package with the Royal Bank of Canada for seniors' housing projects undertaken by the Legion. Discussions also are under way with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation to develop special financing arrangements for Legion housing projects. As well, the Program has established a partnering relationship with the Abbeyfield Houses Society of Canada which specializes in providing supportive housing options that can accommodate seven to 10 residents. Legion Branches that have identified similar needs in their community can explore partnership opportunities with Abbeyfield.
