  Fall 2005

We Can Help

  • Are you the survivor of a war service Veteran who has now passed away?
  • Is your income less than $1,132 a month?
  • Do you live in Canada?

If so, you might qualify for the War Veterans Allowance (WVA) program. It provides basic income support to low-income Veterans and their families. This helps to 'top up' other kinds of monthly income they may have.

If you are a survivor, it is possible to get the WVA even if your departed loved one never received it. But you might not qualify if you and the Veteran were divorced or if you are now remarried. WVA payments can vary, depending on a number of things. For example, if you have children that depend on you for support, you may qualify for more help.

To apply for the WVA, please call us toll-free at 1-866-522-2122. You will need to fill out a form. We can send you one or you can get one at your local Veterans Affairs Canada office. After that, a simple income test will be done.
