Assistance Fund

The Assistance Fund provides financial assistance to any recipient of the War Veterans Allowance (WVA) for an emergency or unexpected contingency that affects health or safety and for which there are no other resources available.

"Emergency" means a condition requiring immediate action and which is commonly characterized by a threat to the health or safety of the individual. "Unexpected contingency" means circumstances over which the applicant has no control and which requires prompt action; a situation which may lead to an emergency situation, if corrective action were not taken.

These grants of up to $1,000 are most commonly provided for shelter, clothing, health items and essential appliances. Examples of Veteran requests are: new refrigerator, stove or roof repair. Spouse, common-law partner or survivor requests include: dentures, eyeglasses or hearing aids. Many clients require assistance for hook-ups to new municipal water and septic systems.

To apply for an Assistance Fund grant, please contact your Veterans Affairs Canada District Office.
