Stop and Smell the Roses

Stop and Smell the RosesIn July, Moncton-area veterans previously residing in the Veterans Unit at Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Regional Hospital moved into their spacious new home - the Veterans' Health Centre. The $4.5 million facility features a ground floor location that offers veterans direct access to the outside with landscaped greenery, rooms that allow for more personal privacy, a palliative care room for the use of the residents and families, and a unit for individuals with special care needs.

The new facility is receiving high praise from veterans in residence and their spouses. Many spouses say they have noticed a tremendous improvement in their husbands' spirits now that they are able to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful surroundings with family and friends. Veterans also are very pleased that the staff who looked after them at the Dumont facility have been relocated to the new veterans' centre. "They treat the veterans and us like members of their own family," notes one spouse.
